Books I Own

Cindy Says: Let's Brainstorm

Preface:

I’ll start by saying that this is by no means all of my books. I have a lot of books, and I cannot access all of them right now. But, these are ones that I have gotten either in the past year, or are lying around where I can see them. Most of these books were in a Word Document I’ve been keeping.

Hope you all had a nice Christmas and are having a good new year so far. I didn’t feel well on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day. but I am doing better now. I think I just ate something that didn’t agree with me. I wasn’t really sick…

Anyway, hope you enjoy this list of books I own…

Making Connections Between Seemingly Unconnectable Things

Cindy Says: Let's Brainstorm

(in order to write a story or create content)

Here is some chaos…

Lately, I’ve been feeling a tremendous lack of inspiration. At least, inspiration to actually write anything.

However, I’ve been like this for most of my life. I go through periods where I’m super productive, and other periods of my life, I can come up with ideas, but never follow through on any of them, at least, not for very long. Or perhaps, I hit a point where a project is stalled and I can’t think of a good way to continue.

Currently, I have been in a slump because I used to be able to go over to my desk and work, but now, I can’t do that because I am in a different room that doesn’t have a desk. I can’t get comfortable anywhere, and my life is in a period of transition again. The reason…

Ten Years

My Year Alone

This has nothing really to do with 2015, but, not everything has to be…

Honestly, while I intend to focus on events of 2015, I mostly think any time prior to that can have a correlation to whatever memoir I eventually decide to write.

So, for context, in late 2011, I found out that I had a paratubal cyst and at the end of January 2012, I had it removed.

It ended up being 30 lbs full of fluid, which is disgusting… made me look like I was pregnant with a toddler…

An interesting thing about this time in my life was that I had a group of friends to share the time with. Back in the day, they were a good support system.

Of course, that faded after a while…

People make choices.

But, even though things have changed in the interim, I have to say that I am…

The Importance and Application of Dialogue Part 1

Cindy Says: Let's Brainstorm

In Jane Austen’s brilliant novel, Pride and Prejudice, one of the things that always gets me is the way she masterfully creates her characters. And how the narration and dialogue coalesce into the perfect cocktail that it is.

She balances narration and dialogue, showing and telling with precision.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighborhood, this truth is so well-fixed in the minds of the surrounding families that he is considered as the rightful property of some one or other of their daughters.”

This is Jane Austen’s opening paragraph and it’s absolutely brilliant because it lets you know exactly what you’re in for with this novel.

It sets the stage for what is going…

A New Story

Cindy Says: Let's Brainstorm

So, this is a weird idea with a bunch of random origins, but I think I can make it work. While their themes aren’t exactly aligned, and their plots and characters are different, I find them all compelling in their own way… So, what’s this big idea? Well, follow along with me!

Now, I know I have been trying to figure out how to make Nightmare Island work, and I think I have figured out a few things to do… but this next step is going to be a real test. See, while I have the ability to world build, it’s not my strongpoint. I appreciate details, but I detest writing them, and I often hate it when other authors cram so many details in their stories so that my brain is like, “ok, great, but why does it matter if the curtains are blue?”

If it doesn’t matter, then…

An old scrapbook

My Year Alone

So from the look of this book, you can tell that this is old and not very well-put-together… but there are some interesting things in it.

Since there are many pages in this, I will give you a brief flyover of what I decided to commemorate in my earlier life…

This book has an introduction in which I have a truly horrible, but fun selfie where I am blowing a bubble. I was wearing a white sleeveless, linen (?) shirt with a floral pattern around the collar and hem… The intro is dated April 5th 2001… so this is a long time ago…

There is a program from my 8th grade year in 2000. I was in the chorus and we were playing a holiday show.

Some things chronicled in this scrapbook are a field trip my youth group took to Southern Illinois to a Christian convention (I remember that…

Re-Examining the Past Through Old Notebooks #8

My Year Alone

The Pink Notebook…

The myth, the legend… Just kidding. In a few different posts, where I was covering a notebook that had a story either beginning in a new notebook’s last few pages and needing to be continued somewhere else… or a story which picks up on a later chapter because it was started in another notebook… Either way, usually there was a notebook that would be mentioned… the place to go to start or finish the story… and from all I have been able to discern, this notebook is the culprit.

So, let’s dive in.

This notebook is a hot pink Yoobi-brand notebook. The notebook seems to be college-ruled and about 90 pages.

None of that is WRITTEN on the notebook, so it’s just an educated guess.

This notebook is labeled as: Random Notes & Stories.

And the quote written on this notebook, because there usually is one on…
